Our 4/4 Red Oak lumber is a great choice when you’re looking for strong, durable material with a bold, classic grain pattern. Each board is kiln-dried, then planed and sanded smooth to a consistent thickness, and straight-lined on both edges for clean, square stock. Red Oak is a reliable hardwood commonly used for furniture, shelving, cabinetry, and general woodworking. Perfect for furniture parts, shelves, cabinet components, craft projects, CNC work, and shop builds.

What to Expect

Each board will have natural variation in grain and color. Red Oak is known for its pronounced grain pattern, which can vary in intensity from board to board. Thickness is listed as 4/4 nominal, with a finished thickness of approximately 7/8" after surfacing and sanding. Boards are milled square and straight, but slight movement can occur with changes in humidity.

Important Notes on Movement

Wood is a natural material and will move with changes in humidity. We recommend allowing boards to acclimate before final milling or installation.

Finishing Tips

Red Oak accepts stain and finish very well due to its open grain.

For most projects:

  • Sand to desired smoothness
  • Apply stain if desired, then finish with polyurethane or similar
