Natural Live Edge Character

Bark may or may not remain on the live edges. During kiln drying and handling, bark can become brittle and naturally fall away.

Each slab will also have its own unique characteristics, which may include:

Knots
Cracks
Checks
Curl
Feathering
Natural variations in the live edge

These features are part of the natural character of genuine Black Walnut.

Why Black Walnut?

Black Walnut is prized for its deep brown heartwood, contrasting sapwood, dramatic grain, and ability to develop a rich appearance when finished.

These slabs are well suited for projects such as:

-Coffee and side tables
-Floating shelves
-Mantels
-Benches
-Countertops
-Desks
-Furniture
-Custom woodworking projects

Finishing & Building Notes

For a deeper, higher-contrast appearance, consider a hard-wax oil or oil-based finish.

For tables and other furniture, use a rigid base and allow for normal seasonal movement of solid wood. Floating shelves and mantels should be installed with appropriately rated hardware secured into suitable structural support.

Absolutely thrilled with this purchase! I bought a 1.75" thick walnut plank for a small outdoor side table, and this was not my first purchase from this wood shop.

The plank arrived quickly and was extremely well packaged. The quality exceeded my expectations—there was practically no checking or cracking. I followed the seller’s recommendation and let the wood acclimate for six days before turning it into a table.

The seller was incredibly easy to work with and happily accommodated all of my requests. I highly recommend this shop and look forward to purchasing more beautiful wood from them in the future!

You will not be disappointed in the quality of their black walnut slabs. Truly high quality. Thanks again

Customer service is outstanding. Sterling took the time to answer all my questions and replied to my questions in a more than timely fashion. Product exceeded my expectations. I will post pic of my project once complete. Thanks for a great shopping experience.

Excellent quality kiln dried walnut slab that requires minor prep for finishing. Generous size, better than expected.

I have ordered multiple items from this shop and never disappointed. I will be ordering again soon!

great product very nice beautiful looking walnut

Beautiful piece of wood! Just as pictured and described. Fast shipping and packaged carefully. Will definitely shop again!

Wonderful board, very straight with minimal rough spots, will make a great cutting board as a gift. Thank you for prompt shipping and great packaging.

Arrived yesterday, I just removed the well package piece to take a look. I have recently ordered black walnut from Black Sheep; I had no doubts about this piece or any other future orders. Very well cut and finish. Will make and excellent side tabletop!

The product delivered by Black Sheep Woodworks was perfect. Met all my requests and arrived ahead of when I needed it. I will continue to order from this company for all my slabs.

Better wood than anticipated.

High Quality wood, smooth, exactly what ordered, shipping was fast. Thank you very much

Great wood products sold at this shop.

This board is just about flawless. I've made a ton of cutting boards and charcuterie boards over the years, and most wood needs a lot of epoxy to fill holes and cracks and prepare the board for a long life in the kitchen. This board will need hardly any work before I can get busy shaping it and then staining it. GREAT.

Beautiful slab that was packaged well and
was as described.

As stated in the description, some of the bark may naturally come off during shipping, but it is very easy to glue back on. I love this slab. I'm using it as a very large charcuterie board.
